Carotid disease and Stroke
Carotid disease and Stroke – is an area supported by a huge weight of evidence from clinical trials. It is vital that patients have access to the latest treatment regimes and where necessary are referred for urgent carotid surgery to reduce the risk of further events. There is increasing evidence that this should be within 2 weeks of the first TIA (transient ischaemic attack or mini stroke) or major stroke. This complex area of medicine needs close collaboration between Neurologists and Vascular surgeons with knowledge in the field.
Treatments for carotid stenosis include:
- Carotid endarterectomy
- Robotically assisted carotid artery stenting. We are one of only two centres in the world to offer this service.
